Concept & Packaging Intern Bath & Body Works

Columbus, OH | Summer 2019

Bath & Body Works is a major retailer found in malls around the world. They sell home fragrances (candles, hand soaps, wall flowers), personal body care (lotions, perfumes, body soaps) and gift sets. I worked on a team of over 80 creatives in the planning, designing, and execution of several product lines.

Over the course of my summer, I met with 10 associates and engaged with 11 executives in discussions about internships, career paths, and the business model at L Brands. I also participated in a Black Friday showroom feedback walk through with L Brands’ Victoria’s Secret. I worked on three teams over the 3 months of my program; Home Fragrance, Concept, and Gifts & Accessories. At the end of this internship, I presented my work to several designers in the creative department.

On the Home Fragrance team, I:

  • Iterated on spring collection of candles and soaps, totaling over 400 designs

  • Remained curious about the brand and business

  • Analyzed product development, both existing and in progress

My role on the Concept team included:

  • Fabricating full scale and brand-right examples of gifting packages

  • Curating potential campaign for in-store marketing

  • Familiarizing self with hundreds of competitor beauty products, including several trips to local shopping centers

  • Understanding and abstracting trends for fall and Halloween 2020

  • Surveying over 20 people on home fragrance preferences and fall traditions, including 4 in-depth interviews

  • Presenting 16 page report on Fall/Halloween 2020

While working on Gifts & Accessories, I:

  • Abstracted data from the overall creative direction

  • Formed seven distinct constructions and two accurate die lines as potential box designs
